Two goals from Olivia Knox set the pace for Ponies.

Stillwater senior forward Olivia Knox nearly had a three-goal performance Thursday night as the Ponies faced Suburban East Conference foe Roseville.

Instead, Knox had to settle for just a two-goal night.

Knox was one of two Stillwater players to score in the match. The Ponies took care of the Raiders in easy fashion with a 3-0 win at Roseville High School.

Stillwater (5-1-1) appeared to have its first goal less than 15 minutes into the match after Knox took a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Dara Andringa and hammered it into the net. However, the goal called off because Stillwater had 12 players on the field.

Later in the first half, Andringa’s corner kick ability would be seen again. She set up a header for junior defenseman Halle Peterson, who scored to give a 1-0 advantage to Stillwater, ranked No. 13 in the Class 2A coaches' poll.

“More than half of our goals this season have come on corners,” Stillwater coach Mike Huber said. “(Andringa) does a great job of putting our team in the mix to score on those plays.”

With just a minute left in the first half, the Ponies took a commanding 2-0 lead when Knox took a pass from freshman midfielder Lexi Huber and put it in the net.

Knox’s second goal of the match came early in the second half and gave her a team-high four on the season. Once again, the senior was in the right place and scored off a pass from senior forward Hannah Beech to put Stillwater ahead 3-0.

Throughout Thursday’s match, Roseville (4-4) had few chances to get through the Ponies’ staunch defense.

“When you play a top team like Stillwater, you have limited opportunities,” Roseville coach James Cave said. “With that in mind, our margin of error is already low. Then, we didn’t cash in on two chances for goals.”

Raiders sophomore goalie Bella DiGiorno, who was making her first start at the varsity level, was peppered with shots throughout the match and made several key stops, including eight in the second half, and finished with 14 saves.
