The past three years, St. Thomas Academy has finished second in the Metro East Conference standings behind perennial power North St. Paul.

Entering the final week of this season, both teams are unbeaten in league play, and if both continue their perfect pace, Thursday’s game will be a winner-takes-all scenario for the conference title.

Ranked sixth in the Class 2A coaches’ poll, the Polars (12-2, 6-0) have won the past eight games against the Cadets and compiled a 38-3 scoring difference in the matchup this decade.

That dominance combines both teams' time in the now dissolved Classic Suburban Conference and the past two years in the Metro East Conference.

St. Thomas Academy, which is ranked fourth in Class 1A, looks to buck that trend under first-year coach Noel Quinn.

Quinn led the Eden Prairie girls' soccer team to the state championship the past two seasons and has steered the Cadets (10-2, 6-0) to their best start since 2013.

With North St. Paul looking continue its domination over St. Thomas Academy and the Cadets trying to begin a new era in the Metro East Conference, there is no question Thursday’s matchup is our Top Game of the Week.
