Aug. 30: The Skippers meet the Wildcats in a matchup featuring two state tournament qualifiers.

Minnetonka and Eagan may be entering rebuilding years after losing key players from last year's Class 2A state tournament rosters, but both programs have proven that graduation losses won't diminish their level of play.

Ranked No. 7 in the Class 2A coaches' poll, the Skippers (1-0-1) no longer have Class 2A’s Mr. Soccer award winner Suad Suljic, who is a freshman at Bradley University, and are without the majority of its defensive core this season. They appear to be moving along fine after a 4-0 victory over Moorhead and a 2-2 tie with No. 13-2A Minneapolis Southwest last week.

For the Wildcats, the departure of all-tournament honoree Chad Miller and goalkeeper Dalton VonKaenel have left gaps in the lineup to fill this season. Several players are getting shots to play a role as Eagan (1-0-1) tied Mahtomedi and defeated Centennial 2-1 last week.

While both teams are going through an adjustment period, one could find a passing grade with a victory in this test between state tournament-caliber programs and is one reason it is our Top Game of the Week.
