Jordan girls’ soccer coach Janae Vogel had four goals entering the initial season of the Jaguars program.

They were to have fun, work hard, get better and help soccer grow in the community.

She accomplished each of them when her players also reached the magic number of four. The Jaguars scored four goals in a 4-1 triumph over Cannon Falls at Ames Field in Jordan. It marked the first varsity victory for the newly formed program.

The Jaguars dropped their first three games of the season, falling to Southwest Christian 3-0, Mayer Lutheran 2-0 and Watertown-Mayer 7-1.

“The girls were hungry for a win,” Vogel said. “They are starting to understand more and more of the game daily. They are becoming more confident.”

Junior Jenna Kes had two goals in the victory. Junior Allison Leik and freshman Sidney Bendzick each added one.

Vogel uses a Mia Hamm quote to describe her players: “True champions aren’t always the ones that win, but those with the most guts.”

“This group of girls I get to coach have more guts than any of our opponents,” Vogel said. “It takes a lot of guts to try a sport most have never played before. As a teenage girl, they put themselves out there and come out champions on and off the field.”

Top performances

• Senior forward Taylor Kenealy scored two goals in three consecutive games for the Class 2A, No. 1-ranked Eagan girls’ soccer team. She scored both Wildcats goals in back-to-back 2-1 triumphs over No. 3 Lake- ville North and Park of Cottage Grove. The other two goals came in a 3-0 victory over Shakopee.

• Senior forward Samantha Schorzman scored all four goals in Hastings’ 4-3 victory over South St. Paul in a Metro East Conference soccer game at Ettinger Field. The captain has six of the Raiders’ eight goals this season.
