The Lake Conference has established itself as one of the state's premier soccer leagues after three weeks of play.

The evidence is pretty clear: The teams are consistently ranked among the state's best and conference games offer a high level of competitive play, making league matchups some of the best battles in the metro area. And once again, Lake Conference teams occupy several spots on our Top Games of the Week list, including the top spot.

Minnetonka, ranked No. 1 in the Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaching Association's Class 2A poll, will host Edina, No. 7, on Tuesday.

The Skippers (7-0-0) and Hornets (2-2-3) are two of four Lake Conference teams ranked in Class 2A. Wayzata is No. 2 while Hopkins is tied at No. 9 with Andover. Eden Prairie, meanwhile, is hanging around just outside the Top 10.

The Hornets are coming off a weekend in which they defeated Blake.

The Skippers continued rolling with two of their three victories last week coming against Lake Conference opponents. Minnetonka recorded a 5-1 victory over ninth-ranked Hopkins and defeated Eden Prairie 2-1.

The Skippers' winning streak is even more impressive considering they won all three game on the road. After four games away from home, Minnetonka is looking forward to returning to a familiar field where they are acclimated with their own surroundings.

Minnetonka has outscored its opposition 36-5 in seven games and Suad Sauljic has been the Skippers' main threat. The junior forward has 10 goals and scored in every game this season. He also has three two-goal games.

Edina defeated Blake 2-1 on Saturday, winning for the first time since its season opener. The victory was big as it ended the Hornets' stretch of more than two weeks without a victory.

Edina didn't have much time to revel in its victory, not with its schedule. The Hornets not only head to Minnetonka on Tuesday but face No. 9 Hopkins on Thursday and host Benilde-St. Margaret's, No. 4 in Class 1A, next week.

This week won't be much different from the last for the Lake Conference's teams. Big games every night with plenty at stake for conference and section implications.
