Quick Q&A: Louis Holtz, St. Thomas Academy soccer

The Cadets haven’t appeared in the boys’ soccer state tournament since 2005. Holtz would like to see that drought come to an end in his final prep season. “I hope to help my team win the Class 1A state championship,” he said. Here is a closer look at Holtz:

 

Q: The best movie I’ve seen in the past year?

A: “Frozen.”

 

Q: Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me?

A: Committed, competitive and soft.

 

Q: Three songs I never skip on my iPod are …

A: “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus, “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen, and “Made in America” by Toby Keith.

 

Q: When did you start playing soccer?

A: Since I could barely walk. My cousins influenced me to play soccer. They paved the way for me.

 

Q: What did you work on over the summer?

A: My shooting, primarily my volleys.

 

Q: What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete?

A: Helping my team beat Hill-Murray 3-2 on a last-second game-winner last year. [Hill-Murray went on to finish second in the Class 1A tournament].

 

Q: Who is your favorite college or pro sports team, and why?

A: I was born and raised a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan, even after the 2009 NFC Championship [a 31-28 overtime loss to New Orleans].

 

– and if so, what is it?

A: I’m a renowned state frolfer (Frisbee golfer).
