No stranger to winning, controversy
Prairie Seeds was one of the state’s best high school soccer teams from its inception in 2008, when it went 22-0. In five seasons, it has won a state championship and reached the tournament two other times. Eligibility questions have surfaced in the past two years.
2010: State champion in its first full season of varsity play. Defeated Mankato East 3-2 in the Class 1A title game. Finished the season 20-0-1.
2011: State runner-up. Lost to Benilde-St. Margaret’s 3-1 in the Class 1A championship game. Finished season 19-1-2. The team played two state tournament games without a top player whose age was called into question. He was cleared to play in the championship game and reached the field only 15 minutes before the game started.
2012: Won the section championship, but never played in the state tournament. A probe into a fight after the section title game led to the discovery of an ineligible player and disqualified the team from state competition.
