The school won its third consecutive state championship in boys' sports, going back to last spring.

The beat goes on for Eastview boys' athletic programs as well as for senior Joe Schlosser.

The school won its third consecutive state championship when the boys' soccer team beat Blaine 3-2 for the Class 2A championship Thursday at the Metrodome. The Lightning concluded the 2011-12 school year by winning the boys' lacrosse and Class 3A baseball state championships. The lacrosse title was the first state title for a boys' team since the school was founded in 1997.

"As a school we are certainly very proud of the accomplishments of our teams that have been fortunate enough to compete in state tournaments, especially most recently with championships in lacrosse and baseball last spring and now with boys' soccer," said Matt Percival, Eastview assistant principal for curriculum and athletics. "The best part of it really is the different stories behind their accomplishments."

Schlosser was a member of the boys' soccer and baseball championship teams. He has appeared in four consecutive state tournaments, with the soccer team in 2011 as well as the basketball team in 2012.

"Being in the state tournament is such an amazing feeling, and I was fortunate enough to be in four state tournaments," Schlosser said. "Nothing can compare to the feeling of winning a state tournament, but with winning two in a row, it just adds so much more to the amazing feeling."

Wildcats have new look

Former Minnesota North Stars right wing Tom Younghans has been hired to coach the Eagan girls' hockey team this winter. The St. Paul native played for the North Stars for six seasons before finishing his NHL career with the New York Rangers.

Younghans replaces Scott Darwitz and Jeff Kolehmainen, who served as Wildcats co-coaches last season. The former University of Minnesota standout was an assistant coach in the East Ridge girls' program last season.

One of Younghans' assistant coaches is longtime Burnsville coach Bruce Anderson. He retired as the coach of the Blaze girls' squad following the 2011-12 season.

Taking over the reigns

Former Scott West (a co-op of Belle Plaine and Jordan) wrestler Jacob Roberts has been hired to coach the Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony squad.

In his senior season in 2005, Roberts finished third in the 145-pound weight division in the Class 2A state tournament.

He went on to wrestle at St. Cloud State.

Tori Poole scored her second goal with 17 seconds remaining, giving South St. Paul a 2-1 triumph over Totino-Grace in the third-place game of the Class 1A girls' soccer state tournament. The junior forward scored four of the Packers' five goals in the state tournament.
