The rematch of last year's Class 1A title game failed to produce any scoring.

Regulation and two overtime periods weren't enough time for Benilde-St. Margaret's and Blake to figure one another out.

The 2011 girls' soccer Class 1A championship rematch ended in a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes failed to produce any offense on Tuesday night at Holy Angels.

"It's pretty disappointing to end with a tie," said Anne Arnason, Benilde-St. Margaret's senior defender. "I think we really dominated in overtime. We had a lot of energy at the end of the game, but we couldn't finish it."

The Red Knights had two shots hit off the crossbar in overtime periods, including Dana Buckhorn's attempt in the final minutes. In regulation, the Bears hit one off the post and had a shot punched over the top of the goal.

Most of the night's action took place in the middle of the field during the slow offensive night. And when offense finally did find a hole, the goalkeepers promptly clogged it. Blake goalkeeper Maddy Crawford finished with 10 saves and Anne Michels made 15 saves for Benilde-St. Margaret's.

"Each team had some chances, but each goalkeeper came up with the save," Benilde-St. Margaret's coach Scott Helling-Christy said. "Two top Class A teams fight to a tie. Setting up for a good end of the season."

It would require another playoff meeting for the two teams to face off again this season.
