Eastview girls' soccer coach thought Sanders would have 'an awesome senior year'

Paris Sanders

Eastview girls' soccer coach David Harem said she thought forward Paris Sanders would have "an awesome senior year," and she is fulfilling expectations.

Sanders scored three goals in a victory over Bloomington Kennedy and followed that up with a two-goal performance in a win against Duluth East. The Lightning is 6-1-1 through its first eight games.

Here is a closer look at Sanders:

The best movie I've seen in the past year? "Life as We Know It."

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Generous; competitive; passionate.

How did you get started in sports? I decided I wanted to play soccer when I was around 6 because all of my friends did it. I started running track because my mom ran it in high school, and I wanted to be like her when I was younger.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? Sometimes it gets hard, but after practice I always try to come home and do my homework right after or make sure I get as much as I can done before my games. I normally always find a way to get it all done. I make sure I try to always stay focused.

Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? Apple Valley because we are both high schools in the city of Apple Valley, so whenever we play them in any sport it is always a big deal.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Winning state my freshman year in the 4x100 (at the Class 2A track meet).

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... overwhelmed and scared of the older girls.

What did you work on in the offseason? I worked on getting stronger and faster and more technical with the ball.

Favorite meal before a game? Chicken alfredo with a Caesar salad, French bread and an ice cold water.

To get focused for a game, I ... visualize on what I want to do well and listen to my iPod.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... I'm able to make moves I would like to make around an opponent and outrun them.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I'm not sure what I would change. I love the rivalries that we have and the competitiveness against each school and level we get to play at.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? Go to the beach and read a magazine or go shopping.

Who is your favorite pro or college sports team and why? The Minnesota Vikings because my grandpa David Osborne used to play on it, so they have always been a family favorite. I also love watching football.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... involved in a job that has to do with fashion and have a family. I also hope to be able to be a coach for little kids soccer.

Do you have a secret talent -- and if so, what is it? I would have to say my sense of style.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "Play to make sure everyone knows you care." From my high school coach, David Herem.
