Simley boys soccer captures third

The Simley High School boys soccer team advanced to the State High School Soccer playoffs this fall for the first time in school history. The boys won the Classic Suburban Conference and went on to win the Section 3A playoff bracket against Holy Angels to advance to the Class A State Championship playoffs. The Spartans, led by head coach Noel Quinn, defeated Austin High School (winner of Section1A) by a score of 2-1 in the quarter-finals and went on to play Hermantown in the semifinal playoff game.

In the State playoff semifinal game Simley lost to Hermantown 2-1 with a last minute goal from Hermantown. The Simley boys team then went on to tie Totino-Grace High School 1-1 to capture a share of 3rd place in the Class A State High School Tournament. The Simley High School boys soccer team was led by defenseman Captain Kurtis Julson. Seniors Ben Royce and Oja Ena were named as forwards on the All State Class A tournament team. Seniors Ben Royce and Kurtis Julson were named to the All State first team. Their final record for the season was 18-2-5.
