Andover vs. Maple Grove
5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5

Maple Grove sits atop the Northwest Suburban Conference standings and can wrap up the league title this week if it can knock off defending champion Andover.

The No. 3-2A Crimson (13-1, 11-0) bounced back from their first loss of the season, a 2-0 defeat on Sept. 16 to No. 2-2A Minneapolis Washburn, with five straight wins.

Meredith Haakenson scored her 12th goal of the season in a 2-0 victory at Totino-Grace on Sept. 28. Mannon McManon had the other goal, her fifth of the season for Maple Grove, which is seeking its first trip to the state tournament in school history.

Andover (11-1-2, 9-0-2), the defending Class 2A, Section 7 champion, seeks a return trip to state, and Thursday's clash could be a possible postseason matchup if both teams navigate through the section playoffs. The No. 5-2A Huskies haven’t lost since the season opener on Aug. 25, when they fell to Rosemount 1-0.

Andover has scored 36 times in its last five games and has three players who have reached double-digit goals this year. Kelsey Kallio leads the team with 16, while Erin Becker and Corynn Grabau each have 13.
