St. Thomas Academy at Mahtomedi
5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21

Another Class 1A top-10 matchup is on our slate, as No. 4 St. Thomas Academy travels to No. 7 Mahtomedi on Thursday.

Unlike our first three games, this features teams that have lost this season. The Cadets (5-1-1, 2-0-0) opened their season with a 1-0 defeat to St. Paul Highland Park but have not lost in six games since. The duo of Logan Davis and Aman Bird has combined for nine goals and nine assists, a big reason for the team’s success.

St. Thomas Academy has won its first two Metro East Conference games this season and is second in the league behind North St. Paul.

Mahtomedi (6-1, 1-1) won its first five games of the season, allowing only one goal and scoring 19, including 13 against Liberty Classical. The team lost its sixth game, however, 2-1 to North St. Paul. Its defense has been smothering opponents this season, and goalkeeper Josh Bates has a .962 save percentage and 25 saves.

The Zephyrs are three points behind the Cadets in the conference and sit sixth in the standings. A win against St. Thomas Academy would put them back in the title race.
