Edina at Wayzata
1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23

Edina last won a conference title in 2013 and has arguably its best chance at accomplishing that feat once again this season. The Hornets lack the flashy offensive numbers of Wayzata, but half of the team’s wins have come by a 1-0 result.

Sophia Boman, Maria Boman and Abby Swanda have three goals each for Edina, which trails the Trojans by a half game in the conference standings. The Hornets haven’t needed much scoring, with goalie Loli Fidler stopping nearly everything she’s seen this season. Fidler made 15 saves in a 1-0 overtime win against Minnetonka on Sept. 5 and 13 against Wayzata on Sept. 5.

The Trojans return all-state selections in Kalkar, a second-team member, and Lily Gilbertson, a second-team selection as a freshman in 2015 and preseason All-American this year. Gilbertson is third on the team with seven goals and has five assists this season. Samantha Dietrick netted the game-winner Sept. 16 against Kasson-Mantorville in a 1-0 win for her eighth goal of the season.

Wayzata’s output is all the more astonishing considering that preseason All-American Addie Clark, who has committed to West Virginia, has yet to see the field. Clark has missed time with mononucleosis.
