Blake vs. Breck
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5

Sitting fewer than four miles from each other, Breck and Blake are intimate athletic and academic rivals. Soccer is no exception, as the No. 2-1A Mustangs prepare to face the Bears, who hang just outside the top 10.

While Breck (2-2) is currently ranked higher, Blake (2-0) has celebrated more recent success in the rivalry. The Bears defeated the Mustangs 1-0 behind a goal from Ethan Roe in last year’s Class 1A, Section 5 final. Blake went on to the semifinals in the state tournament, where it lost to eventual champion, St. Thomas Academy.

Breck now gets a chance at revenge against Blake at McKnight Stadium on Tuesday. Despite their ranking, the Mustangs have not had as much early-season success as they would have hoped, already matching their loss total from last season. Now, with the Mustangs opening play in the Independent Metro Athletic Conference, points become vital.

Blake won the IMAC championship last season, finishing a win ahead of Breck. A win at home early in the year could go a long way for the Mustangs as these teams jockey for league position.
