Duluth East at Eastview
4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9

Up on the north shore, Duluth East attracted the attention of pollsters and grabbed the No. 8 spot in Class 2A after an impressive start to the season.

The Greyhounds (3-1, 1-0) won their first three games, including a 2-0 decision over No. 4-2A Rosemount on Aug. 26. However, Duluth East cooled off against elite competition last week, losing 2-0 to No. 3-2A Eagan last Friday and falling 5-0 to No. 1-2A Wayzata on Saturday.

Gracie Butchart led the Greyhounds in scoring last season and headlines a group of 11 seniors that includes goalkeeper Anna Mayer. So far in 2017, Butchart has four assists and McKenzie Nelson leads the team with two goals.

Eastview’s proven to be a dangerous team throughout the years. Last season the Lightning knocked off South Suburban Conference rival Eagan 4-0 in the regular season and finished with 9-4-3 record. Taylor McGahn returns for her senior season as one of the team’s top scorers from a year ago. She already has two goals and an assist in four games for the Lightning (2-2), who posted a 1-0 win over No. 9-2A Minnetonka on Aug. 29.
