Breck at Blake
5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5

Class 1A, Section 5 is loaded with teams eager to knock off two-time defending champion Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Two teams in the section that have a chance are Breck and No. 3-1A Blake.

Breck (1-2) lost its meeting with the Red Knights 3-0 on Aug. 26 but boasts a game-changer in Penn State recruit Kaitlyn MacBean. A sophomore, MacBean scored all three of her team's goals in a 3-2 win over No. 7-1A Holy Angels on Aug. 24.

After losing their second consecutive game 3-0 to Robbinsdale Cooper last Tuesday, the Mustangs are anxious to write-off their recent woes after a long layoff.

Blake (3-0-1) made its intent as a possible heir to the Section 5 throne clear with a 1-0 win over top-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Aug. 31. Kiera Reese scored the game-winner with 25 seconds left in overtime, inspiring some confidence should the teams meet again in the postseason.

Jade Sund, Sara McClanahan and Maddie Tix lead the Bears with three goals apiece.
