Benilde-St. Margaret's vs. Hill-Murray
7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29

Hill-Murray reached three of the last four Class 1A state tournaments, and its best finish was third-place, which came last season after Benilde-St. Margaret’s knocked it out in the semifinals.

Turning the page, the Pioneers opened this year with a 3-2 victory over Prior Lake on Aug. 25, scoring the first three goals before giving two back in the final 18 minutes. Katherine Schindler, Ally Bratland and Caralyn Conners each found Prior Lake’s net and are pieces of Hill-Murray's talented sophomore class.

A day later, the Pioneers (1-0-1) recorded a 1-1 draw with defending Class 2A champion Centennial.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s, which begins its quest for its fifth state championship in six years, features Madison Stoks. The senior was a a first-team all-state midfielder a year ago and headlines the Red Knights' returners. Stoks and her teammates will have to adjust to the loss of Ms. Soccer finalist Maren Nobel, who graduated last spring.

Stoks, Kay Frenzese and Ingrid Lundberg scored for Benilde-St. Margaret’s (1-0) in a season-opening 3-0 win over Breck on Aug. 26.
