Benilde-St. Margaret's vs. Edina
5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20

Two of the top teams in the west metro tangle Tuesday when No. 1-1A Benilde-St. Margaret’s meets No. 7-2A Edina.

The Hornets handed the Red Knights their only loss of last season, but Benilde-St. Margaret’s rebounded from the 1-0 defeat to claim its third Class 1A state title in the past six years. Meanwhile, Edina bowed out in the Class 2A, Section 2 semifinals against Eden Prairie.

The Red Knights (5-2, 1-1) have scored three or more goals in four of their five wins, but they have also been held scoreless by Hill-Murray (2-0) on Aug. 30 and Chanhassen (1-0) on Sept. 13.

The offense returned against Bloomington Jefferson, with Maria Van Hove scoring two goals and Maddie Stoks netting one in the 3-0 win on Sept. 15.

The Hornets (5-2-1, 0-2-1) are trying to regroup after going winless in tough games against Lake Conference opponents. Edina finished in a scoreless tie with Eden Prairie before losing to No. 1-2A Wayzata 2-0 and at Minnetonka 1-0.
