Mankato West at Orono
6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20

Mankato West faces its toughest test of the season against defending Class 1A champion Orono. The Spartans, who are No. 1 in the Class 1A coaches' poll, boast a 28-game winning streak and have not given up more than two goals in a contest this season.

The state’s leading scorer, Jacob Makela, will attempt to loosen Orono's defense with his fastbreak ability that has led to 17 goals in seven games this year, amounting to 60 percent of the No. 9-1A Scarlet’s offensive production.

Mankato West’s counter attack begins between the pipes with goalkeeper Tyler Defor, who’s posted the state’s second-best save average (.907) among goalkeepers with at least 50 saves.

Defor figures to be under duress often against an Orono team (7-0-2, 3-0) that leads the state with 42 goals in nine games.

Guyvenson Mohs (13-3-29) has 13 goals, placing him second in the state behind Makela. Mankato West (6-1, 3-1) will also have to restrain all-tournament selection Spencer Overturf (7-9-23) and Christian Babo (9-4-22).
