Eden Prairie at Prior Lake
5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1

Eden Prairie begins the season with a new head coach and the same old expectations.

Jessica Mueller takes over for Noel Quinn, who helped guide the Eagles to a runner-up finish at last year's Class 2A state tournament. Eden Prairie lost to Eagan in the championship game in a penalty kick shootout.

The Eagles have advanced to the state tournament the last four years, and Mueller will be aiming to continue the streak.

Eden Prairie brings back captains Naomi Rogge, Kara Bean and Kellie Fuhs after graduating Ms. Soccer finalist Brianna Lupo along with fellow all-state first team selection Meghan Verkinderen.

The No. 5-2A Eagles lost to Woodbury 1-0 in the season opener and will look to rebound No. 13-2A Prior Lake.

The Lakers (1-1) defeated Hill-Murray in their first game of the year 1-0, but dropped their second to Cretin-Derham Hall.

Sixteen of the 17 players on the Prior Lake roster are upperclassmen, giving coach Blair Rummel a heavily experienced lineup. The Lakers hope to parlay that experience into their first trip to the state tournament since 2002.
