Orono at Wayzata
5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30

Wayzata recorded a 7-0 season-opening win over Mankato West behind three goals from Morgan Turner. Now the No. 4-2A Trojans face a stiffer challenge in Orono—last year’s Class 1A state runner-up.

Turner, an all-state first team selection a year ago, is working alongside of junior midfielder and West Virginia recruit Addison Clark to pace Wayzata. The Trojans snapped a two-year absence from the state tournament last season with a 2-1 win over Minneapolis Washburn in the Class 2A, Section 6 championship.

The Spartans haven’t lost more than three games for the past four years and went undefeated at the state tournament two years ago to capture the title.

Orono graduated three all-state first team players, and the No. 2-1A Spartans will be tested by a loaded early season schedule that also includes defending Class 1A state champion Benilde-St. Margaret’s and No. 9-1A DeLaSalle.
