Wayzata at Mounds View
6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25

Wayzata tied Mounds View 1-1 in last year's season opener, a fitting beginning to a season in which each team lost just four games.

Will this year's matchup be as telling?

Wayzata graduated its top forward and goalkeeper but brings back 12 players from a season ago — when the Trojans missing making a second consecutive trip to the state tournament after 2-1 loss to Minneapolis Washburn in the Class 2A, Section 6 semifinals.

Senior Maclane King looks to be the top candidate to emerge from a young offensive group and become No. 8 Wayzata's go-to scorer.

Mounds View graduated 16 seniors and build around seven returners who saw action last season. Defender Thomas Limborg and midfielder Till Konczak started as sophomores, and the junior duo are expected to provide some leadership for an inexperienced Mustangs' lineup.
