Defending Class 1A state champion Orono hasn’t skipped a beat this season after graduating Class 1A Ms. Soccer award winner Sophie Babo, who scored 32 goals as a senior.

The Spartans lost two regular-season games last season — to St. Michael-Albertville 3-1 and to Minneapolis Washburn 1-0, and No. 3-1A Orono (12-2, 8-0) similarly has only lost two games this season, falling to No. 9-2A Minneapolis Washburn 2-0 and to No. 1-1A Benilde-St. Margaret’s 1-0.

Carly Goehring has picked up much of the scoring slack left behind from the graduation of Babo. The senior forward has 11 goals and 10 assists.

Lily McKown has 10 goals and eight assists the for the Spartans, who have 67 goals and allowed just six this season.

No. 5-1A Blake (9-3-1, 4-0) has turned around its season with a five-game winning streak, including victories over No. 4-1A Holy Angels 2-0 and No. 6-1A Visitation 1-0.
