Wayzata at Edina
6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29

Wayzata has mixed younger players into its lineup and has started to see some progress recently.

The No. 5-2A Trojans (8-2-1, 4-0) have junior Morgan Turner, who has scored 10 goals, and two freshmen starters in midfielder Lily Gilbertson (3G, 2A) and defender Megan Malecha. Gilbertson scored the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Eden Prairie on Sept. 17.

Wayzata lost to Cretin-Derham Hall 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 26, snapping a seven-game unbeaten streak in which the Trojans outscored opponents 15-5 and recorded four consecutive shutouts.

Edina (5-4-2, 1-3-1) just hasn’t gotten results despite playing one of the toughest schedules in the state. The Hornets have a 2-0 win over No. 10-2A Prior Lake and a 1-0 win over No. 1-1A Benilde-St. Margaret’s, but have a 2-1 loss to and a 1-1 tie with No. 4-2A Eden Prairie to go with a 1-0 loss to No. 7-2A Burnsville and a 3-2 loss to Wayzata.

Sarah Doran leads Edina with five goals and two assists. Elizabeth Muench has four goals.
