East Ridge at Woodbury
5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15

School district rivals East Ridge and Woodbury meet for bragging rights on the pitch Tuesday in Woodbury.

The Raptors (3-1-1, 0-0-1) dropped to No. 7 in the Class 2A coaches’ poll after a 4-2 road loss to a surging North St. Paul squad on Sept. 1. The Polars went from being unranked two weeks ago to No. 1-2A this week.

East Ridge defeated Minneapolis South 2-1 on Sept. 3 and tied Stillwater 0-0 in a road game on Sept. 10.

The Royals (3-2, 1-0) started the season with a 3-0 loss to Hudson, but responded with three straight victories, including a 3-2 overtime win at Roseville on Sept 10. Goals from Alex Santos, Brandon Bieszk and Josh Thoa powered Woodbury to the win. The Royals lost at North St. Paul 2-1 two days later.

Woodbury's Kohei Adams had the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Bloomington Jefferson, while Bieszk and Jack Hays scored in a 2-1 win over St. Paul Central.

The Raptors handed the Royals a 5-2 loss in last season’s meeting en route to winning the Suburban East Conference title. The loss was the lone league blemish for Woodbury, which settled for second place in the standings.

East Ridge first win against the Royals came in the 2012 Section 4 tournament, and the Raptors have won every meeting since.

Jarrod Ronquillo has seven goals on the season while Bailey Barjesteh has three for East Ridge.
