Park of Cottage Grove at Duluth East

Duluth East stared last season 0-3-1, but marched to the Class 2A state tournament on a 15-game undefeated streak that included a victory over Centennial in the Section 7 championship.

The Greyhounds, who finished with a 12-4-4 record, lost in the state quarterfinals to top-seeded and No. 1-ranked East Ridge 1-0 on free kick in overtime.

Duluth East graduated 11 seniors, including attackers Darby Henderson and Matt Sorensen. Henderson, a Class 2A all-tournament team selection and second team all-state selection, finished the season with 17 goals and five assists while Sorensen scored nine goals and had 15 assists.

Nolan Friday had two goals and Sam Brickley and Bryce Holak each had one as the Greyhounds won their season opener over Andover 4-2. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime, but Duluth East scored three goals in eight minutes in the second half to win. The Greyhounds also tied Blaine 1-1 in Duluth on Aug. 28.
