Junior Andrew Leck’s goal with 16:38 remaining in the second half lifted  Chaska to its first state tournament victory, 2-0 over St. Paul Como Park

“That felt amazing,” Leck said. “Any time we score, it just boosts our confidence and our momentum.”

Standing just in front of St. Paul Como Park goalie John Wenger, Leck was able to corral a rebound and put a point-blank shot under the crossbar to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead and, eventually, the victory over defending Class 1A champion and fourth-seeded St. Paul Como Park (14-5-2). Junior Jose Cholico added a second goal on a spectacular diving header with 4:23 remaining.

Chaska (14-5-0) is the fifth seed in the tournament and making its first appearance at state.

The Hawks face top-seeded DeLaSalle (18-1-1) in the semifinal Wednesday at St. Cloud State.

“We’re making history,” Leck said. “I feel like we’re not done yet. We have a great group, and I think we can go all the way.”
