Jade King and Margaret Harings scored the first two goals to pace top-seed Eagan to a 3-0 victory over Hopkins on Tuesday in the Class 2A girls’ soccer state quarterfinals.

The Wildcats spent most of the game on the attack and limited the Royals offensive chances to record their 13th shutout this season in the game at Park of Cottage Grove High School.

“We came out very confident knowing we were going to be the better team, but we had to stay composed and let our nerves go ahead after our first goal,” King said.

Harings put the Wildcats ahead when she tapped in a goal off a corner kick from King 10 minutes into the game. King’s cross was sent into a crowd and slipped through the fingers of Royals goalkeeper Gretchen Patterson before finding Haring’s foot.

“Pretty easy,’’ Harings said. “No one was around me.”

King eliminated any chance of the Royals tying the score, despite being outplayed, when she cut back near the corner of the 18-yard box and scored for a 2-0 lead early in the second half.

“I was really excited because I hadn’t got on the board in a while,” King said. “I knew I had to stay composed and take my time and it would go in the back of the net.”

Olivia Asta added a goal for the Wildcats with 10 minutes left in the second half. The senior midfielder’s curling ball beat Patterson.

The Wildcats have 19 victories and one tie this season.

“I want to win a state championship and get a ring,” King said. “We’ve had that as our long-term goal and it’s getting closer and closer. We only have two games left.”
