Senior midfielders Kevin Hoof and Daniel Cortez each scored a goal, while junior midfielder Garrett Maupin earned two assists for Maple Grove as the second-seeded Crimson extended their undefeated season with a 2-0 victory over Rosemount in a state Class 2A quarterfinal matchup Tuesday night at Osseo High School.

Hoof’s goal came in the 39th minute when his header off Maupin’s free kick found the back of the net to make the score 1-0.

Maupin recorded his second assist less than five minutes into the second half, sending a free kick into the Irish’s penalty box that Cortez then directed past Rosemount junior goalkeeper Michael Urban.

“I take a lot of the corner and free kicks,” Maupin said. “Sometimes we make up our own plays (on the field). We like to connect on those set pieces.”

The win keeps Maple Grove’s record spotless at 20-0 and the Crimson have shut out their last seven opponents, dating back to the regular season.

“We’re looking forward to our next game,” Maupin said. “We’re just focused on that.”

Maple Grove advances to the semifinals, where it will play the winner of third-seeded Minnetonka (16-0-2) and Anoka (12-6-1) next Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
