Eden Prairie at Hopkins
7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2

Eden Prairie's senior-laden lineup is one reason the Eagles, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, have dropped just one match all season, losing 2-1 to No. 4-3A Hopkins in the Eagle Invitational final Sept. 20.

Eden Prairie has rarely been tested this season, dropping only four sets this. Fourteen of the Eagles' 16 victories have been sweeps, including big wins over Minnetonka and Apple Valley since the loss. Seniors Abby Ihrke, Lauren Mattison and Elizabeth Mohr provide the Eagles' lineup with experience, but coach Chad Becker also has younger talent helping boost the Eagles, such as junior outside hitter Ashley Brueggeman and freshman middle Grace Persson.

Hopkins has arguably the state’s best senior in setter Sam Seliger Swenson, a University of Minnesota commit and daughter of head coach Vicki Swenson. She is surrounded by a host of top seniors, although 6-foot-4 sophomore middle Jasmyn Martin is the Royals’ top hitting option.
