Beth Harlos made her case to be inserted into the Eden Prairie starting lineup.

The senior forward came off the bench and scored her first two goals of the season in the Eagles’ 4-0 victory over Hopkins in a Lake Conference matchup Tuesday night at Eden Prairie High School.

Harlos scored both her goals in the first half, finishing off beautiful passes from the Eagles’ senior captain April Bockin.

Harlos’ strong play against the Royals (7-2-1, 1-2-1), No. 7 the Minnesota High School Soccer Coaching Association’s Class 2A poll, will make it difficult to keep her out of the starting lineup, Bockin said.

“She was in position when she needed to be,” Bockin said. “She was always on the attack, pushing up, and finishing when she needed to.

“I definitely think she has a chance to be a starter now,” Bockin added.

Harlos said she played her best against Hopkins but doesn’t know if she’ll be a starter for the fifth-ranked Eagles (8-1-1, 3-1-0) anytime soon. She also knows being a substitute is not ideal for a senior and is taking the situation in stride.

“All I can do is work my hardest and see if it pays off,” Harlos said.

Bockin’s performance, however, paid off for Eden Prairie. The Eagles’ forward, who has committed to play for the University of Minnesota women’s soccer team next year, scored her team-leading 10th goal and recorded her 10th assist, setting up junior midfielder Brianna Lupo for a goal in the second half.
