Minnetonka and Mounds View were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the Class 2A preseason poll. The Skippers (2-3-1) are off to rough start against some stiff competition, including a loss to Benilde-St. Margaret's, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A.

The Mustangs had some early struggles as well but have picked it up and are now 4-1-1 and ranked No. 9 in Class 2A. Grace Kruger has scored a team-best six goals, and Mariah Northrop has 10 assists, nine more than any of her teammates.
