Eden Prairie senior midfielder Alex Enter had gone goal-less in his varsity high school career before Tuesday’s game against Edina.

His first gave the Eagles a 1-0 win over their Lake Conference rivals.

Enter nailed a shot from just outside the box into the lower right corner of the net past a diving Tanner Morrison. The goal gave Eden Prairie the lead midway through the first half. Enter said he was just doing what he was supposed to do.

“I was just trying to hit the ball,” Enter said. “Just timing it for the corner, and trying to keep it low.”

Low, indeed. For his efforts, Enter was awarded the game ball, which goes to the Eden Prairie player who the team feels played the hardest.

“It means a lot getting the game ball,” Enter said.

Enter is considering attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison or Iowa State but said that he will not be playing varsity soccer for either school.

“Hopefully, I’ll play with just a club team,” Enter said.

Enter is a co-captain for the Eagles, who are ranked No. 6 in the latest Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaching Association poll. He said the group has stuck together since they were youngsters.

“This team has been together for many years now," Enter said after knocking off the No. 3 Hornets.

The Eagles will rely on that familiarity down the stretch, and they might just rely on Enter scoring varsity goal No. 2 somewhere along the way.

First Report

Senior midfielder Alex Enter scored 25 minutes, 23 seconds into the first half, giving No. 6-ranked (Class 2A) Eden Prairie a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Edina on Tuesday at Eden Prairie High School.

Enter, the Eagles' co-captain, drilled a rebound shot into the lower-right corner of the net from just inside the box to give Eden Prairie the lead. It was Enter's first career high school goal.

The ball possession remained largely equal in terms of time, with both squads playing solid, if not exceptional, defense throughout the game. Both teams are considered among the top contenders to win the competitive Lake Conference.

The victory moves the Eagles to 2-1-0 on the season, while the Hornets drop to 1-2-2.
