Junior Maxwell Kent buried the game-winning goal for St. Louis Park with less than a minute remaining to propel the Orioles past Minneapolis South 2-1 on Monday night at St. Louis Park High School.

As the clock ticked down to the final minute, Kent found a hole in the Tigers' defense while racing down the right side of the field.  With little space to work with, he launched the ball just out of reach of Minneapolis South goaltender Tony Branca.

Minneapolis South’s top attackers displayed flawless footwork early, and that allowed Aden Samatar to deposit a smooth pass from teammate Hamza Abdujalil past St. Louis Park goaltender Eric Hendricks for a 1-0 lead.

“(Minneapolis) South dominated the first half of play,” St. Louis Park coach William Alvarado said. “But we created more opportunities in the second half and played much better.”

The second half surge for the Orioles began with a rocket from Conor Bellingham, followed by Kent’s dramatic game-winning tally.

“It’s fun to see that we have the ability to be a good team after losing so many talented seniors last season,” Kent said. “Whether it’s getting that late goal or putting the game away early, hopefully we can keep our chemistry up and make it the best year we can.”

St. Louis Park improves to 2-1-0 and heads to Roseville on Thursday, while Minneapolis South falls to 0-2-0, heading to face undefeated East Ridge on Thursday.
